APR Workshop on Membership Growth (Circular 3/2010)

Greetings from Manila!
We are pleased to inform you that the World Organization of the Scout Movement/Asia-Pacific Region in collaboration with Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia is organizing the APR Workshop on Membership Growth. The aim of this workshop is to provide an avenue for leaders at regional and national levels who are responsible for membership growth to share and exchange ideas to meet the regional growth figures by 2012. The workshop will also help NSOs to develop new strategies to monitor and sustain the membership growth by strengthening/improving the recruitment and retention of members in NSOs.

Details of the Workshop are as follows:
Date: 20 – 23 May 2010
Participants are requested to arrive 19 May and may leave on 24 May 2010.
Venue: The Zon Regency Hotel, Johor Bahru , Johor, Malaysia. Johor Bahru (JB) is the capital city of Johor in the southern most part of the peninsula, near Singapore.
Travel Arrangement: Senai International Airport is the main airport in Johor. You can also reach JB by the following:

[2] From Singapore: By Bus, coach or special taxis

Fee: US$150.00 per participant which will include local transportation, food,accommodation of five nights, workshop documents, souvenirs, half-day educational tour, etc.
Eligibility: Key volunteers and full time executives from National Scout Organizations who are responsible for monitoring the membership growth of their association.

APR Membership Growth Strategies for 2009-2012

Preamble
The APR Management Meeting in 2008 identified two major challenges facing Scouting in
WOSM/APR. One of them was the declining membership in most of the NSOs, which affected
the regional membership. The regional membership was projected with a growth rate of 3% as
from the beginning of the APR Vision 2013 in 2001, to reach a target of 25 million in 2013.
However, the APR membership by the end of 2007 was only 15.4 million and had declined by
more than 2 million over the past 7 years.
